Halee Burchfield : My Birth Story
When I first told my husband that I wanted a homebirth, he was pretty against the idea.
He didn't know anyone who had had a homebirth before, and seeing his role as our protector, he wanted to go to the hospital because he believed that that was safest. I asked him to do two things for me, the first was to begin doing his own research on birth, birth practices and safety.
The second was to go to a consultation with Kim. I feel like we grilled her on every possible questions we could think of. She had all the right answers.
We left feeling so confident, and much more respected than we had felt previously at another provider. So we hired her. My first child was born at 39 weeks, she had just a little bit of difficulty transitioning earthside, but I didn't even know to feel scared because of how confident and calm Kim handled the situation.
Kim is so well trained that I know that my baby and I are safe in her care. In fact, I have chosen to hire her two more times, and can't imagine hiring anyone else to provide our family with maternity care.
Kim also surrounds herself with colleagues of quality and character, when she was not able to be with me during my second birth due to injury I felt confident in her back up, Mary Alexander. I love that I had been able to meet Mary prior to labor day, at my home visit, and that she knew me, and my home. She respected our space so well.
Kim offers respectful, evidence based care. She truly loves the women she serves. I feel at peace in Kim's presence and I am able to feel safe in pregnancy and birth because I have chosen Kim as my midwife."
