Ashley Davis: The Birth of Piper

My first homebirth was with my (soon to be) 9-year-old daughter, Piper (born Feb. 6th, 2011). I wanted a water birth so we went to great lengths to make sure the birthing tub and everything was perfect and everything went as planned. I tell her she’s a mermaid because she was born in the water.....she eats it up. At first, she thought I was being silly because "who has a baby in water?" Then I showed her pictures of her birthday and she feels like a superstar mermaid. Her birth was perfection. Right there in my beautiful home, surrounded by loved ones, and peaceful.
